As I develop my own personal learning into this Technology for the Classroom course, I think of opportunities that my instruction as a future math and physics teacher might be influenced by technology. I realize that current and future technologies in the classroom will have a significant impact on my own views of teaching and how technology can supplement in-class instruction. I remember going through high school from 2003 - 2007 in Mountain View High School and only becoming familiar with technology through use of computers and such during my personal time, while only a hand full of subjects focused on electronics and we couldn't use them to much of an extent and technology in the classroom was shunned for a large part as well. Looking at what's required today, students are not only expected to utilize various technologies in the classroom, they're expected to develop, analyze, and create various projects while utilizing vast resources and global networking abilities to solve complex problems within their time as a student. (Educational Technology Learning Standards: Grades 9-12, n.d.). This type of change in thinking seems like a great idea if it is implemented properly and carefully monitored to prevent abuse or other unwanted actions.

I consider myself very open and adaptable with most technologies and applications, but by no means do I consider myself an expert and I am eager to learn new techniques that will allow myself to become a better teacher. Through my personal life, work, and education I have used various
programs to gather information, analyze, develop, and present on findings, but I was limited on the what and who I could use as resources and feedback. Through today's tools of social networking and technologies students are now able to utilize vast amounts of online data and connect to virtually anyone in the globe in order to communicate ideas and reflect on their own learning. (Palmer, 2015). This rapid sharing of information and ideas could benefit lots of people globally to help solve isolated or global problems in short amounts of time.

I am excited what I will learn from this course and how I will be able to build upon my own previous knowledge of technology systems to benefit my own teaching style. I wonder what technologies will be available for my own children when they finally reach high school and beyond to show me what they learn and what they will be able to do.

  1. Nice post! Way to pursue a career as a mathematics and physics teacher, that in itself sounds difficult! With this being said, I could see there being many different useful opportunities and ways to integrate technology in your future lesson plans. Along with your previous experiences, the use of technology during class time was frowned upon in many of my classes as well. The teachers used technology but we never got to really venture with it. The only time we were allowed to use technology during class time was when the whole class went to the computer lab to type paper or complete online work. I only graduated a handful of years ago. I think technology can be applied to any subject of any grade level. It all comes down to the willingness of the teacher. It's reassuring to see that you are eager to learn more about how to integrate technology into the class. I think this is really going to benefit your students later on down the road. Good Luck!

  2. Great job citing your sources and connecting the readings and activities to your future teaching.

I look forward to seeing what technology tools you discover to use in your classroom.
