Blog Post #4

In my own personal philosophy, I try to refrain from engaging in viral posts that relate to religion, political, or otherwise may not come from a reliable source. I have seen many different articles or otherwise garbage "news" that someone has posted online to try to sway peoples opinions in an attempt to make an idea or or message go viral. I've seen different types of attempted media and more recently with the developments of certain software someone's face has been superimposed on another video and attempts to portray someone falsely with a certain message content or other bias agenda in an attempt to anger or scare viewers.

As a parent, I find certain stories that affect young children and other kids put into harms way very heartbreaking. "Similarly, the superhero funeral epitomizes the senseless of much of the violence in the U.S. " (Davis, 2016). I never like to hear what the effects of one person has caused onto a defenseless child, and hope affected families can find closure from horrible acts against loved ones.

Also, I believe social media and the such should be used for putting alleged crimes against animals, kids, women, or other seemingly vulnerable persons in an attempt to create a lynch mod against one person or another. Criminal or civil matters should be reported and handled by the proper authorities.

  1. I'm guessing you meant "show not be" not "should be" in your last paragraph. I agree that there is a lot of misinformation out there. Unfortunately, we have to teach our students how to be savvy enough to recognize the misinformation and how to find facts out. It is important that we help them learn to navigate this new digital world in ways most of us were not formally taught.
